How to use Creature Selfie
Turn yourself into a Spookilee Drive creature, live on your phone. No app, no sign-up, nothing recorded.
Quick start
- 1
Scan or open
Scan a Spookilee Drive QR code with your phone camera, or just open the link in your browser. No app to install.
- 2
Tap to start
Hit the big Tap to start button, then Grant access and allow the camera when your phone asks.
- 3
Find your face
Hold your phone at arm's length with your face in the middle of the screen. Face the camera straight on and let the spirits find you.
- 4
Pull faces
Open your mouth, blink, tilt your head. The creature copies you in real time.
- 5
Swap creatures
Tap a face at the bottom, or swipe left and right, to become someone else.
Meet the creatures
Each one has its own link, so you can jump straight to your favourite.
The ReaperHood up. Lantern lit. Souls to collect.
The MonsterBig. Green. Surprisingly polite.
The Ghostly ButlerDinner is served. You are the dinner.
Ground BreakerFresh out of the ground and ready to rattle.
Electric FenceDon't touch the fence. Too late.
The Electric Fence shakes you behind a crackling fence and plays an electric buzz when you pick it. It has soft, slowly pulsing sparks. If you're sensitive to flashing lights, you can skip this one, and turning on Reduce Motion in your phone's accessibility settings switches the sparks off.
Tips for the best results
- Turn your screen brightness up and stand somewhere well lit, with light on your face rather than behind you.
- Hold the phone at arm's length and keep your whole face in view. Take off sunglasses and pull hair away from your eyes if you can.
- Hats and big glasses can confuse the face tracking, so try without them if the creature won't settle.
- Take a normal phone screenshot to keep a memory. There's no photo button in the app, so screenshots are the way to save and share.
- Sound makes it better: turn the volume up. Use the speaker button to mute or unmute.
Privacy
Your camera feed stays on your phone. Nothing is recorded, uploaded or stored, and there are no accounts. The face tracking runs entirely in your browser, and closing the page switches the camera off. We do count visits anonymously (how many people open the page and which creatures are popular) to see how the haunt is doing. That uses no cookies and collects nothing from your camera.
Troubleshooting
It says it couldn't open my camera
Allow camera access for this site in your browser settings, then refresh the page. On iPhone: Settings → Safari → Camera. On Android: tap the padlock beside the web address → Permissions.
The creature won't line up with my face
Get better light, face the phone straight on and move a little closer or further away. Hats and sunglasses can get in the way.
I can't hear anything
Turn the phone volume up and check the speaker button isn't crossed out. If you're on iPhone, flip the ring/silent switch to ring. The background music plays once, but each character's sound plays when you pick them.
It looks blocky or won't load inside Facebook or Instagram
Those in-app browsers limit the camera. Tap the menu (⋯) and choose Open in Safari or Open in Chrome.
It's slow or choppy
Close other apps and browser tabs, make sure you're not in low-power mode and try again. Older phones may struggle a little.
Nothing happens when I tap Start
Make sure you're using a recent browser (Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android) and that you're online for the first load.
Works on
Recent iPhones (Safari, iOS 16 or newer) and Android phones (Chrome). It needs a camera and an internet connection.
